New Yorked In The Face: Strange Gas Bubbles

WTF! I was in Soho & saw this. I didn’t dare smell the white gas bubbling up from the concrete, so I have no idea what it could be. Similar insanity can be found at NewYorkedInTheFace.com.

New Yorked In The Face: Fedoras

Fedoras

Another puzzler. Two identical white fedoras stuck in the murky waters of the subway tracks. Perhaps these were part of some bizarre homeless underground musical.

Found & photographed by Peter Malfatti.

New Yorked In The Face: Trash

I found this pile of trash in Gowanus. I can’t imagine the story that goes with it. Broken CD’s, mail, a cooler full of junk food, & a wig. Who left this? What was their weekend like? If I had to guess – rough.

How to dig your car out of the snow in Jackson Heights, NYC

The winter of 2011 was pretty brutal for NYC. I’m from WNY so I wasn’t a big deal to me. But people in the city had a rough go of it. Just watch the people in Jamie Stuart’s Idiot With A Tripod.

So when I saw these ladies trying to dig out their car on 77th Street with these tiny snow shovels, I had to get out the HD Camera. I stuck my Kodak Zi8 out the window of my apartment and captured their efforts. I love how they keep trying to drive out with the job not nearly done.

I did took liberty in the edit to make it look like someone else snaked the parking spot from them, just as they were about to re-park. In reality, I think they were clearing the spot for a friend or family member.
